About Our Department

CPFD protects the City of Coopersville and Polkton Township in Ottawa County, Michigan. In total, our department provides fire and emergency services protection for about 7,400 residents, 40,000 daily commuters on I-96 within 44.1 square miles.

The Board

Fire Authority Board

The Coopersville/Polkton Fire Department was established through an Interlocal Agreement between the City of Coopersville and Polkton Township. This agreement establishes the Fire Authority as its own governmental entity, which is overseen by a board.

The board is comprised of two members from the city and two from the township, with alternate positions. The 2026 Board Positions are:

Vice-Chair: Shane Gerard (City of Coopersville)
Treasurer: Dave Biller (Polkton Township)
Secretary: Tim Degeus (City of Coopersville)
Alternate: Brian Mooney (City of Coopersville)
Alternate: Vacant (Polkton Township)

The fire board meets on the second Wednesday of each month, starting at 7 p.m. (unless otherwise posted). The 2026 meeting dates are as follows:

The Fire Authority was established by an interlocal agreement between the City of Coopersville and Polkton Township on
January 1, 1991, under the Urban Cooperation Act of 1967.
